I’m excited to start a new series here on Life With Ashley T, called the Weekend Roundup. I get a lot of questions on my social media accounts about how I spend my time, what I do, where I go … so I thought I’d start giving some behind the scenes with this series.
This weekend, Blaine has been out of town visiting his family in upstate New York, so Harper and I were flying solo! Per usual, it always feels like time flies, especially on the weekend, but we had a great time!
Where We Went:
Halloween Day: I took Halloween off from work so I could spend the entire day with Harper, and we had a blast! During the day, we went to the South Carolina Aquarium to their kids Halloween event and had so much fun! I was so impressed to see them participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project, offering treats for those with food allergies. Kudos, guys!
Halloween “Night”: We went to Charleston Recreation Department’s Trick or Treat Event in Hampton Park with Harper’s best friend and her family. It was packed!! Harper last minute chose to dress up as Elsa (second year in a row), and her best friend last minute decided on Anna! It was just too perfect. We trick or treated after that event around the Wagner Terrace area of downtown Charleston. It was so sweet watching them.
Disney On Ice: I surprised Harper and my mom with tickets to Disney on Ice, and we all enjoyed it so much! The quality of the show really impressed us: it was professional and really well done. Most importantly: Harper was enchanted, singing along and loving every moment. #MissionAccomplished
.
Other than spending several hours at my mom’s house, we spent the rest of the time at home. Lots of crafts, reading books, organizing the house and enjoying the beautiful fall weather. Oh, and we took a nap … perfect considering the time change made for late nights and early mornings.
What We Ate:
No matter where we go, we bring our own snacks (food allergy problems). These are some of our favorites lately:
On Sunday, Harper helped me make this delicious cabbage soup in the Insta Pot. SO GOOD and perfect for fall.
We also made another batch of Elderberry Syrup. We haven’t been sick this season yet {knock on wood}, and I credit our elderberry syrup as a main reason for sure!
What We Watched:
The classic Cinderella is out of the Disney vault and available for download on Amazon Video! We’ve been on the hunt for a copy of this movie, so we happily snuggled up Sunday morning to watch it together. Harper thought the step mom was pretty scary (and she is!!), so she didn’t love those parts with her in it. But I bet she will enjoy it more next time around, remembering that it’s a happy ending.
What I Bought:
A Sleep Training Alarm Clock for Harper: With daylight savings time changing things up this weekend, I knew the transition would be a little rough. And I was right! I’m so glad I bought this alarm clock for Harper.
It has a digital display, which she’s learning to read, but is color coded. So she can watch the clock to see when it’s time for bed, when it’s OK to get out of her bed and play in her room and when it’s time to wake up. We’re getting used to it, but at 4.5 years old, I think she likes the independence of actually knowing what time it is and what that time means in terms of her day.
A camera: I’ve been wanting to explore with my own photography for a while now, and I finally bit the bullet and bought a camera! And I love it!! I went with the Canon EOS Rebel T7, this 50mm lens, and this tripod. Ya’ll … I spent some time shooting with it, and I am so impressed!! If you’re looking for a good beginner setup, I can’t recommend this one enough. My favorite thing about it is that I can solo shoot by setting up the shot AND taking the pics from the Canon app on my phone! Game. Changer.

That’s our weekend! What fun stuff did you get into? I’m still in disbelief that it’s already November!
Sounds like weekend success! As a photographer, I always recommend that camera and lenses to people starting off and wanting to learn the art… great choice!
